… or rather where does the time go? Wasn’t it just summer yesterday? Well this 20 degree above normal weather we’ve been having lately has been a tad confusing, but we are all trying to enjoy this beautiful weather before winter sets in. My weatherman wannabe neighbor tells me every chance he gets what a wet and snowy winter we are expecting.
Well enough about the weather. Let’s get on with my ultimate project. ( That’s what my college friend calls her son, and I just had to steal it. )
Meet my “Hornet.” Player #10. I should have warned you about the color. For the last six weeks we have spent our Saturdays on the sidelines watching my neon puce yellow uniformed guy run up and down the field chasing a ball.
He seems to really enjoy playing. He is still 100% Griffin and only wants to play forward, with no patience for sitting back and playing defense.
He’s also really coming into his own in 2nd grade. I am so proud of how much he has matured.
Our community here in Grand Rapids started an amazing art contest last year. What an amazing experience to have our city literally turned into a giant art gallery.
This year, Griffin and his fellow 2nd graders had an extremely unique opportunity to make his own contribution to Artprize.
An italian painter, Luigi Marzo from Perugio Italy entered his piece entitled “The River Ocean.”
What you don’t see in the picture above is that on the floor below is a riverbed of painted rocks. All the rocks were painted by Griffin and his fellow 2nd graders, and the children from Maria Montessori school of Perugia Italy, which I’m told is our sister school there.
It was a very powerful experience for all. Luigi made a visit to the school, and the children were invited by the venue hosting Luigi’s painting to come downtown to see the installed piece, with their rocks, and have lunch with Luigi. (Pictured above is my personal favorite rock, painted by our very own Griffin.)
